Crabapple Garden Club
History

Crabapple Garden Club was organized in 1952 and celebrated
its 50th anniversary in 2002 by planting 13 crabapple trees, one for
each founding member, at Candler Park, which is part of
Gainesville's City Parks. Today, we have one sustaining charter
member, Dixie Ramsey.

Members are very competitive in local flower shows and it is
not unusual to win the major sweepstakes. The club lists many
judges, landscape design consultants, environmental consultants
and master gardeners on its roster.

The club is active in the Gainesville Federated Garden Club
Council, Laurel District Board, and State Board. At the present
time we have members filling the following positions:

Ruthellen Anderson - State and District Arboreta,
     Botanical and Memorial Gardens Chairman.

Kathy Haynes - Awards Chairman for Laurel
     District.

Pam Kuchler - District Calendar Marketing
     Chairman.

Caroline Silcox - Treasurer of GCG, District Schools and
     Credentials Chairman.

Caroline Silcox has a design in 2007 Pathways and won the
District Award for Laurel.

Flower show judges in the club are active in Creative,
Designer, and Imaginative Study Clubs and North Georgia Flower
Show Judges.

In 2000 Crabapple designed and planted a garden for the
Gainesville Civic Center. We continue to maintain this garden on a
monthly basis.

In 2004 Crabapple started a Junior Club, The Crabapple
Seedlings, in a local elementary school. The members are instilling
their love of gardening to the first graders in Mrs. Wilkins' class.
